Jennifer Woods English IV 28 January 2012 A Wyrd flavour Anglo Saxons had few repetitive themes in their poetry, but the most public was fate. Fate is defined as being something that unavoidably befalls a person. Some might flat call it destiny. The Anglo Saxons believed that fate or wyrd controlled ones life sentence. one time fate had its vogue in a persons life, it was impossible to divagate away from the path laid out front them. In The Seafarer, the narrorator is afraid of three things of fate: illness, or age, or an enemys Sword, snatching life from his soul. (Lines 70-71) In other words, a universes fate could lead him to die from a sinister sickness, his form could wear from archaic age, or he could be defeat in battle by a kind enemy. In The Seafarer, his particular fate is at sea. He remembers his life on land and begins to suffer from natures uncut conditions which make the man become even more unhappy on the path that fait h provided him. The Wanderer was consistent by fate to an exile on the icy overwinter waters. As he wanders the waters, he holds steady to his Anglo Saxon beliefs of noblesse and loyalty. The wanderer dreams of his old life as a first-class warrior and his loyalty to his lord.

When he wakes up from his dreams of home, he remembers fates cruel penalisation on his life for forcing him to wander the soil without any friends or his kin. Because his lord died, he was forced to this grievous life which makes him intent out of control with no drawing card or protection. Sometimes, fate accepts help from others. His family had convinced him that she had her way with other men so he drove her out of their home to the earthen den. During her exile, she mourns the conflict of her old life with her husband.
